NEWS FROM THE SHELLSBURG FARMERS' MARKET, June 24

Season 2 of the market is in full swing.  We have had a wonderful turn out of both vendors and customers but as always, we need YOUR support of your local food producers!

Let me remind everyone that the market goes rain or shine.   If there is a forecast for storms, there will probably be less vendors -- it is their decision to participate or stay home out of the weather.

 

For early in the season, the market has had fresh lettuces, strawberries, cherries, black and red raspberries, beets, green onions, kolhrabi, baby turnips, radishes as well as the staples of excellent baked goods, apple products, delightful jellies and a host of unique craft items.  Food is always available at the market -- the first week of the month, the Lions Club cooks for your pleasure, followed by the Legion, Jake's Steaks from Walker with incredible Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and Divine Decadents.  A great opportunity to fill your refrigerator with wholesome fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a reprieve from cooking for 1 night.

 

We would like to remind everyone that the market is certified so vendors that are approved can accept WIC and CVV coupons.  All the fruits and vegetables qualify for purchase with these programs. Please take advantage of this program -- it makes your food dollars go much further.

 

Something new has been added to the market for our Senior patrons -- we have a golf cart complete with a friendly, pleasant driver  available that will pick you up at your car, take you to each and every vendor and deliver you back to your car.  This is a NO CHARGE service to the Senior customers of the market.  Kathryn Gardemann was our first cart rider and she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.   If you are unable to come to the market, please call either Judy Shaeffer at 436-3566 or Joyce Pence at 436-2559 with your shopping list.   We will be happy to do your shopping for you and deliver to your home!
