Our Community: History Museum |
|
In 2019 the creation of a Shellsburg History Museum was initiated as a way for community members to have a repository for items reflecting the history of Shellsburg. The city council gave permission for the upper story of the city hall building to be used for this purpose. The 2020 Covid pandemic caused delays in organizing and opening the exhibit, but progress continued. On May 17, 2022 an ordinance was passed creating the museum and establishing a five member board of trustees. The first trustees and their offices are:
Sandra Beatty – President Jean Fish – Vice President Rhonda Speckner – Secretary Glenda Shipley – Treasurer Karolyn Roehr – Board Member The museum will generally be open the first and third Wednesday of each month, from 1:00 until 3:00. You can also make arrangements to see the museum by calling Rhonda Speckner at 319-436-2254 or Sandra Beatty at 319-436-2266.
At the museum you will find a wide array of Shellsburg memorabilia, including history of previous businesses, Shellsburg School, and many other items reflecting Shellsburg's past. |
