Spotlight: Pristine Shots
Pristine Shots provides aerial photography for realtors and large property owners, as well as commercials and advertisements for business owners. Pristine Shots has been open for almost two years. It all started with a general interest in anything remote-control. I bought a professional-level drone, obtained my FAA unmanned aircraft license and the rest is history. I am completely self-taught in this industry, and continuously learning. I work full-time for a nationwide company that sells remote-operated and autonomous robotic mowers as a content creator, and part-time for the largest towing company in eastern lowa as a content creator as well. Both careers provide enough work to stay busy, but I am always looking for that little extra. Prior to photography and videography, I was a diesel tech and home builder for many years. I have a wonderful daughter, Marlee, who is eight. We enjoy camping, fishing, and going on adventures. I would like to see Pristine Shots expand to multiple employees, and be self-sustaining, to the point I can continue the careers that I love in an always uncertain economy. Follow Pristine Shots on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. |

Past Spotlight: North Gate Pomskies
We are North Gate Pomskies, a small-town, family Pomsky breeder in east central Iowa. Andrea Grimm and Mayse Grimm are sisters-in-law that live and run their kennel in Shellsburg. Our breeding journey started two and a half years ago. We researched a forever friend for ourselves and after many trials and tribulations we decided we wanted to make the process easier for others. Our love for the Pomsky breed ignited our interest in breeding this incredible puppy. Our primary focus is the F2/F3 Pomsky generation. A happy healthy friend for life is our top priority. All our Pomskies are guaranteed free of over 180 genetic diseases through extensive health and genetic testing on all our dams and sires. Our puppies are also backed by our one-year health guarantee! Meet our pack for more information on our genetic line. Our goal for our kennel is to breed happy healthy Pomskies. We strive to breed for temperament and trainability. We practice puppy culture, litter training, crate training, and desensitization techniques to ensure our pups are well rounded and socialized. Past Spotlight: Hair and More
We opened in March of 1995 at 104 Pearl Street. We are open Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri 1-5. Call for appointments at 319-436-2231. We offer haircuts, perms, coloring, manicures and pedicures. We are a family salon and walk-ins are always welcome and appreciated. As a stylist, I love hair of all kinds, lengths, and different colors, but meeting people is the best part, and always so fun to hear about their different lifestyles.
The shop was previously located in the post office building until 1960, before it moved across the street and has been a salon ever since. I was given the opportunity to purchase the shop prior to 1995 but unfortunately, it wasn't the best time for our family as we had just bought our acreage. So when it came up again we were more than ready. I had been working in Cedar Rapids from 1981-1995 for two different kinds of bosses (which I would highly advise before you own your own business of any kind).
The reason we moved back to a small town was because we wanted to be closer to our kids' school and our home, rather than commuting back and forth to work, and our youngest was starting kindergarten, so I wanted to be home with our kids as long as possible. Today we have four children and eight grandkids. We still enjoy life on our acreage and believe small town living and farming is the best way to raise a family. A native of Shellsburg, I graduated from Shellsburg high school in 1980.
I still go to Rock Ridge Care Center when needed as a way of giving back. The residents and their families appreciate me coming to them so they don’t have to go out in the cold weather to get their hair done. Rock Ridge very generously allowed me to service our customers from their location when a new sidewalk was being built in front of the salon a couple of years ago.
Kevin still works at Roy’s, where he will celebrate 41 years in January! Our customers have been the best! Kevin and I want to thank all our customers for making this work for our lifestyle. If something ever comes up, they have been flexible and great to work with.
Happy holidays!
