"Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don't need to escape from."              Author Unknown

There's something about a small town, where you call your butcher and barber by their first names - and they know yours. Where the grade school, clinic and grocery store are just down the street. Where you can play a round of golf in the morning, go fishing and kayaking in the afternoon, and take a walk in the woods in the evening. Sound too good to be true? Come visit us. We'll show you where it's possible.

INVEST IN SHELLSBURG'S FUTURE
Support the Shellsburg area through the Community Endowment Fund.  Shellsburg Area Community Group established the Shellsburg Area Community Endowment Fund with the Benton County Community Foundation to provide an avenue for charitable people to support community improvements for generations to come.
In simplest terms, endowment means to provide a forever source of income. This charitable fund ensures a permanent source of funding, meaning the dollars are invested and only the income from the fund is utilized, to support the Shellsburg community forever. Thanks to generous donations from SACG members, the fund established just a couple of months ago is already at nearly $10,000. Contributions to this fund will support future park improvements, economic development activities, trails, community beautification, local events, and much more! Gifts to the Shellsburg Area Community Endowment Fund are eligible to receive a 25% state tax credit through the Endow Iowa program. Your gift will also be eligible for federal deductions for charitable giving.  Learn more about the fund or make a gift here.

Large Item Disposal - If you have furniture, appliances or other larger items that will not fit in your garbage container, there is an option for you to have these picked up by the City’s garbage hauler, Johnson County Refuse. Residents need to contact them directly at 319-665-4498 to determine what the charge will be for specific items. You will pay Johnson County Refuse directly by credit card and they will arrange a pick up date. It will be your responsibility to get the item to the curb on the designated date.
Pets - Residents who own pets must not let them run around the community. This includes dogs, cats, or any other pets. If the animal is off your property and not in a vehicle, it needs to be on a leash. There are provisions in the city ordinances for stray animals to be impounded. If this occurs, the pet owner will be responsible to pay any fees associated with the care of the animal prior to the animal being released from the animal shelter to their care. Please be a good neighbor and maintain control of your pets.
