The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District takes pride in educating children in PK-12th Grade. The district includes students from the towns of Vinton, Shellsburg, Garrison, Mt. Auburn, and Brandon. There are approximately 1,600 students across the district; 280 of those students attend the Shellsburg Elementary building. Shellsburg Elementary hosts students in grades K-5. At the 5th grade level, it is the first grade in which all of the students in the district are together at the same school. Shellsburg Elementary also has a 3- and 4-year old preschool program, which is fully inclusive with the school's Early Childhood Special Education program. Shellsburg Elementary also offers before and after school care for school-age children, as well as wrap-around care for preschool age students. This is done in partnership with Creative Kids Child Care. The Vinton-Shellsburg schools have a focus on teachers doing the right work and using best practice to educate students of all needs. The Professional Learning Community model that is used in the Vinton-Shellsburg District mandates that teachers work interdependently to set and achieve common goals for students. Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tiered approach to early identification of students' learning needs. Vinton-Shellsburg has invested in this practice by training almost 100% of the teachers with this model. With Iowa-Core aligned curriculum, RTI in place, and highly qualified teachers, the Vinton-Shellsburg school district is the place to be! Feel free to visit the VSCSD website to learn more. |
